Ireland and Britain – Protected Food Names Map
The Ireland and Britain – Protected Food Names Map is another new map in our food series. The new map shows foods and areas in the EU Protected Food Name Scheme (EU Regulation No 1151/2012). Under this system a named food or drink registered at a European level will be given legal protection against imitation throughout the EU. This is done by Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) or Protected Geographical Indication (PGI). So the map is a mix of areas and products. The map shows currently registered products and areas. An inset chart shows products and regions going through the registration process. It can take up to two years to obtain registration.
The map is currently available as a digital file or printed to order. A print version of the map is expected to be published in the new year and is currently open for sponsorship.
